I've been creatively sewing for 50 years. In fact, sewing has been a common thread throughout my career as a Newborn Intensive Care Unit nurse, special education teacher, professional figure skater and amateur ballroom dancer. I started sewing as a pre-teen to make skating costumes that my parents could not afford. While a teacher, I designed and fabricated special items for my early childhood students. As a nurse, I custom made quilts and bedding to fit special equipment for babies in the NICU. While learning ballroom dance, I designed and made competition dresses for myself and friends - some of these have even been borrowed and worn by professional instructors at dance competitions! Over the years I made traditional quilts for my home and friends. I’ve even made a vinyl quilt to cover our pool table and a custom quilted sunshade for our deck. I greatly enjoy helping friends by altering and repairing all types of clothing and old quilt tops. And all that before Mabel joined my team! Now that I’ve retired from nursing, I’m delighted to offer my experienced service to you and your creative projects.
Mabel is a longarm machine made by Handi-Quilter (born in Utah). She sits on a 12' long frame, has a 24" throat space and can sew designs as large as 18" at a rate of 2,500 stitches per minute. She is fully computerized but is willing to let Sara create custom patterns.
In honor of my mother-in-law, I named my long arm machine Mabel. This was the affectionate name my father-in-law gave her. She loved to sew and now I get to think of her every day.
